Favourite Products for the Month of May

I cannot believe how quick this year is flying by! We are almost halfway through the year, it's unbelievable. With the end of the month having approached us, I wanted to share with you what makeup and beauty products I was loving for the month of May. Honestly, I don't really change up my makeup too much, but I do occasionally purchase new products to try.

Firstly I will start with a primer. The one that I have been using lately is the BYS Cosmetics primer spray. This product is great for priming your skin, and is very easy to use. It dries  very quickly and is great for those who like to save time when applying makeup.

For my foundation, I found myself mostly using Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation. I love how it gives me a really flawless finish without leaving my skin too oily.

Onto the next products I will talk about is the Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette and the Peach glow Blush Palette. Ever since I purchased these two items, I have been using them every day. I love the buttery smooth texture of the eyeshadow and how pigmented they are. The same can be said for the blush. I love how it gives me a gorgeous peach glow!

I have been loving dry shampoo recently, it's great for those days in between washes! I've been using one from Batiste in the scent eden. It's such a lovely sweet scent and gives my hair a bit of life!

I only have one other product to share this month, and that is a nail product. I really love coppery, rose gold shades and when I saw this nail polish by Sally Hansen, I had to get it. It's the gel polish in number 660 - Terra Copper and it's a stunning colour. With these polishes, you don't need a UV light, and the colour lasts just as long as a gel polish. Worth checking out if you haven't already.

So that was the products I was loving for the month of may. As you can see there really wasn't a lot of products, but they were the ones I used mostly.

Hope you enjoyed reading, let me know which products you were loving for the month of may, I would love to know.

Talk soon xx

Current Skincare Routine

As most of you would know, in order to create a flawless complexion, it's really important to have a really good skincare routine. It has taken a while to work out what works for and what doesn't. Everyone is different! I change the products I use every so often, but I do keep it quite simple.
I have a day and a night time routine, which I will share for you so keep on reading if you want to know what it is!

Day Time Routine

  • As I said earlier, I do keep my routine quite simple. I will usually wipe my face with the Garnier Micellar Water with a cotton pad, to remove any dirt or impurities that may have built up over night.
  • To moisturise my face, again is very simple. I have been using the Physicians Formula Argan Oil serum which is a 4 in 1 product. I have a review in this product (which you can check out here). This is basically all I use and I will then apply my makeup for the day.

I use this both morning and night, and have noticed a huge difference in how bright my skin is.

Night Time Routine.

One of my favourite Facial Scrubs
  • At night time, I usually start by removing my makeup. I have been using The Body Shops Aloe Cream cleanser, and it's so gentle on my skin.
  • I will then use the Oil Balancing Charcoal Cleanser from Sukin. I love how this leaves my skin so smooth as well as removing oil and impurities from my face.
  • For a Toner, I have been using The Aloe toner from The Body Shop. It's just like the cream cleanser, very gentle on my skin.
  • To moisturise, I will use the Physicians Formula Argan oil
Some of the Gorgeous Aloe range from The Body Shop

That's pretty much all I do for my skin. I find it has been working really well for me. If I use too many products, my skin can break out, so I try to keep it as simple as I can.

I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know what products you like to use for your skincare routine.

Simple Makeup Tips

Over the years, I have pretty much taught myself how to apply makeup and figure out what works for me and what doesn't. This is due to the large amounts of tutorials that are available and also a little bit of trial and error. So today I wanted to share with you a few of my tips that I have picked up over the years.

Before Makeup Application

  • Basically, you want to start with clean skin. Using a gentle cleanser or even a toner to wipe away any impurities from your skin. I use Garnier Micellar water which is amazing!

Foundation

  • For my foundation, I always make sure I have moisturised and primed my skin before I apply my foundation. I also wait until the moisturiser has sunk into my skin and the orimer has set before I apply my foundation.

Mascara

  • I can be very fussy when it comes to mascara, but when I find one that I like I tend to stick with that one. I just apply my mascara using the wand horizontal to my eye, which works great but for an added bit of volume I will use the tip of the wand to add more product to my lashes. This makes my lashes look fuller, without having to apply false lashes.
  • Placing a card or Tissue under your bottom lashes when applying mascara help to prevent you from messing up your makeup.

Eyeshadow.

  • Eyeshadow has taken me a while to get the hang of, and I am still always learning something new. I used to be a strictly one colour eyeshadow person, which now seems so boring! The main thing is to start small then keep adding colour. It's easier to build up than it is to take off! Also blending with good brushes makes a huge difference.
  • An eyeshadow primer is also a good idea when applying eyeshadow. Using concealer and setting it with powder is a great alternative for a primer. By applying a base to your eyes, this will help your eyeshadow stand out and easier to blend.

Lips

  • I am a big fan of Liquid lipstick, preferring the more creme finish rather than a matte as matte tends to dry out my lips. If you do want to give your lips the illusion of being a bit more on the fuller side, apply a lighter shade to the middle of your lips then the darker shade to the outer sides.
  • Also adding a lip liner just outside your lip line can also give the appearance of fuller lips.

Finishing spray

  • Using a finishing spray is a great way to keep your makeup long lasting and avoids your face looking cakey. There are many brands on the market that have a finishing spray, I currently use one by Models Prefer and I love it.

Here are another few quick tips also

  • Using a clean brush or beauty blender really helps in giving that flawless finish
  • To intensify your eyeshadow colour, apply a bit of setting spray to your brush before picking up the shadow
  • Setting your foundation with a powder will help to prevent you skin looking oily

And Finally........

The one tip that I think is probably the most important is getting a good nights rest. This is a great way for your skin to rejuvenate and give you that fresh glow. Oh, and don't forget to remove your makeup at the end of the day too, otherwise your skin will suffer!!

Hope this was helpful to some of you, let me know if you have any tips, I am always learning something new!

Rose Gold Oval Brushes Review

The latest fad in the world of beauty recently has been oval brushes.  For those of you who don't know what they are, these are makeup brushes that have the bristles coming out of the side of the brush instead of the top of the brush. Almost like a toothbrush!

I have seen these brushes around for a while, and have been intrigued as to how they work. I was lucky enough to be sent a gorgeous set of Rose Gold Oval Brushes from www.simpleglamgirls.com to try out.

Upon receiving these unique brushes, I was very eager to open them and try them out. The bushes are very pretty, and the bristles are quite dense but very soft. They are very light to hold and they feel lovely on the skin. I used the largest one to apply my foundation and found it gave a really flawless finish. There wasn't a great deal of foundation left in the bristles of the brush either.

I used the medium sized one to apply a bronzer, and was impressed but how much product it picked up. I was equally impressed by the amount of product that went on my face, instead of being soaked up by the bristles. The only problem i had was trying to blend it out. It kind of just stayed in the area which I applied it, but I was eventually able to blend out the bronzer.

To apply my eyeshadow, I used a smaller one. This was great to blend out my eyeshadow, but a little difficult to pack on shadow to my lid.

I do have to say that they are quite difficult to manoeuvre, compared to regular brushes, but I think it just takes a bit of getting used to. I have been doing makeup with regular brushes for some time now, so using these were definitely out of my comfort zone!

These are a cheaper alternative to the more expensive Artis Oval brushes, but they are great if you want to try oval brushes, or just starting out in makeup and want to try something a bit different.

Overall, I like these brushes. I find them to be quite soft on the skin and don't scratch or feel harsh. As for the design, I love the rose gold with the black handle. I think they look very classy and glamorous!

If you are interested in purchasing these as a set or one on it's own to try, go to www.simpleglamgirls.com and enter code Jane at the checkout to receive 20% off your order. So go on over and grab a bargain!

Too Faced Sweet Peach Review and Swatches

Being the beauty and makeup obsessed person that I am, I am always on the hunt for new products to try, preferably on the more affordable side but I will occasionally purchase something that is a bit more high end!

I also do watch a lot of beauty related videos on youtube and follow a lot of beauty blogs on Instagram. I do this to get an idea of which  products are good, what are not and what is trending in the beauty world.

This how I came to purchase the stunning Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette, and I adore it!
I know this has been out for quite some time now, but I have only just purchased it and I don't regret a thing!

It is such a beautiful palette, with the colours being so beautifully pigmented and the consistency very buttery and smooth.
The packaging is great too, the tin is very strong, and there is a mirror inside which is awesome.

There is a mixture of shimmer and matte shades, and the range of colours is suitable for any makeup look as well as suiting any skin tone.

It has fast become my go too palette, with the versatility being the biggest appeal in using this palette. I love how you can do a very simple, everyday look then go to a full glamour night time or going out look. And the scent is amazing! I thought being a peach scent, it might be a bit sickly or too sweet smelling, but it's really not.

KKW x Kylie Review and Swatches

The KKW x Kylie creme Liquid lipstick has sent the social media world into an absolute frenzy! Sisters Kim Kardashian West and Kylie Jenner have collaborated and released a set of four creme liquid lipsticks that the beauty world can't get enough of!

These lipsticks are a completely new formula and the colours are called different versions of Kim's name. There are four different shades of nude in the set, which Kim is known for her gorgeous nude lip colours.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a set, that I purchased through Crystal Minx, and while I have never really been too interested in any of the Kylie Cosmetics range, for some reason I found myself needing this set!

Firstly, I want to talk about the packaging and how aesthetically pleasing it is to the eye. The box is a nude pink colour and quite good quality. The lipstick packaging is just as pretty with the frosted bottles, nude lids and the signature Kylie drips at the top of each bottle. The packaging is just so stunning!

Next I will talk about the formula. There has been some talk the the lipstick is a little sheer, which it is but you can add another layer to make it more opaque. I did find them to be quite moisturising and easy to wear.
The colour comes out on a little foam applicator, with only a small amount coming out each time.

Above are the colours, as well as some swatches on the lips. I really do like the formula and how hydrating they feel on my lips. I prefer the liquid/creme finish rather than a matte. As for the colour range, while there is not a great deal of difference between the tones, they each look different on. I feel they will suit most colour tones, I am quite fair skinned, and found they suited me quite well.

So if you are after some high quality lip products, these are great, but be prepared to pay quite a few dollars for them. Also, keep in mind that there are a lot of copies or dupes for these so make sure you are buying from a reputable website.

I hope you enjoyed my review, and I will talk to you soon! xx

What makes me Blush!

Today I decided that I wanted to share my current favourite blushers and bronzers! I never used to be much of a blush person to be honest, but these days there are just so many lovely blush and bronzer products, that it's hard not to have a few!

So getting straight into it, my most resent blush purchase is one from Covergirl. It's the Tru Blend Blush in the colour 200 - Medium Rose. It has a marbled look to it and even though it looks a bit shimmery, I find it has more of a satin finish.  It's quite pigmented, so you don't need a lot to add colour to your face. A great blush for everyday use!

Onto my next blush, and it's from Too Faced Cosmetics. It's the Sweet Peach Glow Palette and it's amazing! IT has a blush, bronzer and highlighter all in the same palette and the colours are just stunning. I do particularly like the blush on it's own, I love the texture and the pigmentation is great! This has become my go to blush palette, and I love the peach scent it has!

I have a few blushers that are part of a a trio. The next one I want to mention is the Maybelline Master Contour Kit. It has the three colours, the bronzer, highlighter and blush. I love the blush in this palette, it's a very subtle pink colour and buildable too.

This one is very similar to the Maybelline one, with the tones being a bit more on the warmer side. It's the Rimmel London Contour kit in 002 Coral Glow. The blush in this palette is really nice, and is a more coral colour than pink. This is also a very pigmented colour, so a little does go a long way!

I love the Body Shop products and this bronzer is definitely a favourite of mine. It is called Shimmer waves, and has the perfect amount of shimmer in it without being too overpowering. The colour is quite pigmented too, so you don't need a lot to make an impact.

Hope you enjoyed this pose, let me know which Blushers/Bronzers you are loving!

Beauty Trends From the 90's

One thing I love to look back on, is beauty trends from previous decades. I love to look at the cringeworthy things we thought looked great back then! It's amazing how beauty trends change and evolve and that I am thankful for. Who knows, maybe in a few years, we will look back at the current trends and say 'What were we thinking?'
So today, I am going to give you 10 trends from the 90's that I remember and I may or may not be guilty of more than one of these.

1. Skinny Brows

Ew, OMG, Yuck! This was a craze back in the nineties. Tweezing your eyebrows as thin as you can, then drawing them back on with a pencil! My how times have changed, and this is one trend I am glad stayed in the 90's!

2. Brown Lipstick

I don't even know what to say about this. But I have to admit, I was guilty of the brown lipstick. I used to raid my mums makeup bag and put it on as a kid. I thought I was just so cool! Thank goodness we didn't have smartphones back then, or there would be a lot of embarrassing selfies of a young me in brown lipstick! While some brown toned lipsticks now are quite flattering, back then they were very grungy and moody looking.

3. Hair Tendrils

This was such a huge trend when I was in school. Having your hair up, but leaving a few tendrils out to frame your face. This happens to me occasionally now, seeing as my hair has layers, but back in the day it was the cool thing to do. I remember it so well, I used to think having all my hair pulled back looked too harsh, and having the tendrils made the look softer.

4. Butterfly Clips

Keeping with the hair theme, another trend was putting as many tiny little clips and embellishments in your hair as possible. I too, was one of these culprits. I remember having the tiny little butterflies in all different colours and I loved them! I also had the little gems or rhinestones that you could put in your hair, I though they were so pretty, and they were so popular!

5. Body Glitter

I have to admit, even now I do love me a little glitter, who doesn't? But back in the nineties, growing up you weren't cool at the school disco unless you had body glitter on! I loved it, I had so many and the funny thing is, they all had the strangest scent! I can't quite describe it, but almost every body glitter I had, smelled the same.

6. Baby Buns

I feel like there were so many cool hair trends throughout the nineties. Another one that was popular was the baby buns, which was made famous by Gwen Stefani. These were tiny little buns that we would put in our hair and think we were the ultimate in cool. These made a very small comeback through Miley Cyrus recently, but I don't think they will take off like they did.

7. The Rachel

This is a hairstyle that I begged and begged my parents to let me have. Of course I didn't end up getting it, but I so wished I did! I loved the TV show Friends (and still do) and 'Rachel' has always been my favourite. I think a lot of people tried to replicate the style, but Jennifer Aniston wore it the best!

8. Blue Eyeshadow

Blue eyeshadow was the in thing. It was one of those colours that everyone wore, and all over the eyelid too!

9. Crimped or Crinkled hair.

I absolutely loved this look! I never had a hair crimper, but I did used to put my hair in braids to get that crimped look! This was a very popular hairstyle, and a must for everyone in the nineties!

10. Visible Lip Liner

I almost forgot about this one. The good old Visible Lip liner trend. I think Pamela Anderson made this look popular. It was achieved by overdrawing your lips and using a darker lip liner that your lipstick. This is one trend that should probably stay in the nineties!

So those are some very interesting beauty trends from the nineties. Some of them I would love to see a comeback, and some maybe not! In saying that, beauty trends for me are about having fun and feeling comfortable on what you are wearing. So never ever think you can't wear something because it's deemed 'out of fashion'. Be yourself!

I had a lot of fun writing this and it brought back a lot of childhood memories for me!
Let me know what previous trends you love or hate, I would love to know!
